Preteam and Topaz Gymnastics

These classes will focus on the gender-appropriate equipment, plus some trampoline and tumbltrak. Instruction is provided by members of UMDGC's gymnastics team coaching staff, and current and former competivite gymnasts.

Attire: Leotard, t-shirt, athletic shorts, or sweatpants with elastic waistband or drawstring.  No pockets.  Shirts must be completely tucked in.  Bare feet; no socks or shoes permitted.

Girls Preteam
Girls Level 2+

The preteam is a non-competitive program designed for gymnasts interested in joining UMDGC’s girls or Xcel teams.  Participants in the preteam will be exposed to progressively harder strength, flexibility, and conditioning. Gymnasts will be learn all of the skills required to compete USAG level 3 and Xcel Gold. There is a great emphasis on form and technique.

In order to move to UMDGC's team for the upcoming season, the gymnast must pass a skills test no later than mid-August. Once the gymnast has passed the skills test, she may join UMDGC's gymnastics team between June and August. Preteamers that pass their skills test by mid-January may have the opportunity to compete in non-sanctioned competitions between April and June.

Requirements: Girls who have passed Intro Gymnastics Level 1. May also contact umdgcllc@gmail.com to schedule an evaluation.

Boys Preteam
Boys Level 2+

The boys preteam is a non-competing program designed for gymnasts interested in joining UMDGC’s boys team program. Gymnasts will learn all of the skills required to compete USAG level 4. There is a great emphasis on form and techniquem, and an introduction to flexibility and strength training.

In order to move to UMDGC's team for the upcoming season, the gymnast must pass a skills test no later than mid-August. Once the gymnast has passed the skills test, he may join UMDGC's boys team between approximately April and August of each year.

Requirements: Boys who have passed Intro Gymnastics Level 1. May also contact umdgcllc@gmail.com to schedule an evaluation.

Max ratio: 8 during the school year. During the summer ratios may be slightly more due to the flexibility of the program.

For Summer 2017, the boys preteam will be training with the Boys Level 4 Team.

  • runs Jun 5 to Aug 14.
  • has three 2.25 hour practices per week.
  • allows the gymnasts to attend any of the practices they are able to.
  • may attend as many as they wish.
  • two payment options: 10-class pass or monthly tuition.

Girls Topaz

Non-competitive class for girls levels 3+

UMDGC's Topaz class is designed for female gymnasts who are eligible to be on UMDGC's Girls or Xcel teams, but who are not interested in competing or are unable to make the commitment to be on the team. The class will focus on skills at the level that the gymnast would be competing. Gymnasts will be able to move up levels if they achieve 90% of their skills at the current level, but it does not change their level eligiblity within the USAG competitive program.

Requirements: Females who are eligible for USAG Girls Levels 3+ or Xcel Gold or higher who do not wish to compete for any reason.

Max ratio: 8 during the school year. During the summer ratios may be slightly more due to the flexibility of the program.

For Summer 2017, the Topaz class will be training with the Xcel Team.
