Types of Team Programs

UMDGC offers competitive opportunities to gymnasts of all ages and commitment levels.  All team programs encourage the participant to train year-round in order to compete successfully.  All team members receive free open workouts.  During the summer, all team programs make payment via 10-practice pass or paying equal monthly installments.  Additional fees for national organization membership, uniforms, and competitions.  For complete details, check below to download the UMDGC Team Handbook (see below).

  • Girls Team: UMDGC’s girls team competes USAG 3-10.  Due to the progressive nature of gymnastics, the girls team is highly structured with specific requirements for attendance, mobility, and qualifying to compete.  Extra expenses for uniform, meet fees, and USAG membership.  Tuition is paid monthly.  Prerequisite:  Must have passed the girls preteam skills test by the team meetings (approximately Mid-August) to enter girls team 3.  Must meet mobility scores at competitions and pass a skills test by the team meetings (approximately Mid-August) to move up competitive levels for the upcoming season.
  • Girls TOPS: All non–competitive female gymnasts recommended by the gymnastics class supervisor that are between the ages of 5 and 10 are eligible to try out for TOPS.  TOPS is an extra training program designed to prepare the selected gymnasts for the skills, strength and flexibility from USAG’s TOPS program.  This program is not about training through UMDGC or USAG levels or working on skills that fit the girls the best for the optional levels, it is about training for USAG/UMDGC Level 4 while developing for the elite compulsory routines and using the TOPS skills, strength and flexibility.
  • Xcel Team: A USAG program designed for athletes who wish to continue in gymnastics but cannot make the necessary commitment to team.   Traditionally, this program is open primarilyto adults and teenagers.  Beginning in the 2017-18 season, UMDGC's Xcel program will only compete levels Platinum and Diamond.  In order to be eligible for UMDGC’s Xcel team, the gymnast must be eligible move out of Girls USAG level 4.  Placement into the Xcel program will follow USAG policies for the levels that UMDGC offers.  Payment is by monthly tuition.
