2018-19 Evaluations and Clinics for UMAS Cheer

Upper Merion All Stars is a competitive All Star team that offers many policies that make it more family-friendly and less expensive than other local All Star programs.  All Star cheerleading programs are organized into six different age groups, six different levels, and up to three size categories.  Flyers, bases, and backspots get to dance, jump, stunt, and tumble, so there’s a role and program for just about everyone.

All Star cheerleading is a year round activity:  tryouts are held in late spring; skill development and learning of choreography in the summer;  polishing the routine in the fall; and competitions in winter and early spring.

Details

  • UMDGC's fee includes:
    • Summit commuter package
    • Extra practices & Summit/Worlds Send-off
    • Summit practice attire, tank, & gear
    • Travel expenses for two coaches
  • Varsity Summit Webpage: https://www.varsityallstar.com/the-summit
  • Competition, Not Vacation: The goal of attending Summit is to win and/or advance as far as possible. Because of this priority, Summit requires additional expenses, expectations, and commitment. The UMAS staff has the right to replace a member who is unable to perform the entire routine safely, consistently, and with minimal deductions. Cheerleaders are expected to be in attendance for all performances and presentations until the final UMAS team is eliminated or accepts awards. Only after these happen can vacations start.
  • Additional Practices: Qualifying teams will have mandatory extra practices in April and/or May. April dates were released December 17 and are available for download on the "School Year" tab above. UMAS staff, upon confirming with the UMDGC owners, reserves the right to replace or remove any cheerleader not able to attend the practices, without credit or refund. The practice schedule will be finalized and released once the qualifying teams are known.
  • Commuter Package & Accommodations: UMAS will be selecting the Commuter Package for Summit. This package includes: 3-day Walt Disney World park Hopper Pass, Celebration Party wristband, Summit registration fees, admission to Summit for all days. The commuter package does not include accommodations or transportation. This option will allow participants to add on various travel packages, including accommodations at the All-Star Resorts, through the Varsity website once Varsity provides a registration key.  The commuter option allows for a more personalized experience for each family by staying at other Disney resorts, off-site at another hotel, or to book a timeshare through AirBnB and similar sites.  Families can also decide what their transportation needs will be so that they could explore off the Walt Disney World Resort if time permits.
  • Payment Arrangements & Late Payments: Failure to pay by the due date will lead to the cheerleader not being able to attend Summit; no exceptions. A very limited number of payment arrangements MAY be available and will be passed out on a first-come-first-serve basis and will be based upon previous payment history. Because UMAS/UMDGC does not build in any cushion/profit into the Summit payments, arrangements are only available if other cheerleaders make prepayments.
  • Crossovers: Regular season crossovers are not guaranteed to compete on multiple teams at postseason competitions even if both teams qualify. After all the teams for a postseason competition have qualified, the coaching staff will decide to which team(s) the crossovers are assigned. The decision will be based upon the rules for the postseason competition, minimizing the risk injury, maximizing the productivity of practices, providing the teams with the best opportunity to win, and minimizing potential scheduling issues at practices and competitions. If selected to be a crossover, there may be additional entry fees, and other types of fees associated with the competition. For the purpose of Summit, cheerleaders must follow the payment schedule of the team that qualified first. Failure to make Crossover payment by the Crossover deadline will result in the cheerleader being removed from one team at the UMAS staff's discretion. Failure to make any other payments on time will result in the cheerleader being removed from both teams.
  • Bid Types: Only select divisions are eligible to attend Summit. There are three types of bids to Summit. The type of bid determines the first day of competition, and the qualifying process.
    • Wild Card: First day of competition is Friday, May 4, in the Wild Card Round. Can upgrade to a paid bid at future competitions.
    • At-Large: First day of competition is Saturday, May 5, at the Semi-Final Round. Can upgrade to a paid bid at future competitions.
    • Paid Bids: If a team receives a paid bid, only the cheerleader's Payment 3 will be due. If previous payments were made, the Payments 1 & 2 will be used to pay off any past due fees, and any remaining balance can be refunded within 30 days or credited immediately. Members of a team receiving a paid bid will receive up to 4 nights of accommodations at Disney All-Star Resort in quad-rooms. UMAS staff and/or assigned chaperones will only be supervised during the nights. Paid bids also receive: 4-day Walt Disney World Park Hopper Pass, Bus transportation to all scheduled events, Disney Magical Express Transportation to/from the airport, and Celebration Party wristband.
  • Competition Format: There are three rounds of competition at Summit.
    • Wild Card Round: Friday. First and second place teams during the Wild Card round will advance to Finals on Sunday. Third place teams will advance to the semi-final round on Saturday.
    • Semi-Final Round: Saturday. All divisions with 10 or less teams in Semi-Finals will have 5 teams advance to finals. All divisions with 11 - 19 teams in Semi-Finals will have 50% of the division advance to finals. All divisions with 20 or more teams in Semi-Finals will have 10 teams in the division advance to finals.
    • Finals: Sunday.
  • Withdrawals, Refunds, and Credits: Fees are non-refundable after the due dates. UMDGC/UMAS is not responsible for any fees related to the travel to/from or participation at Summit. This includes, but not limited to, injury, illness, conflicts with other functions, dismissal or suspension from the team, injury, or other disciplinary action.
  • Prepayment:Teams that have not qualified to a postseason competition (Worlds, Summit) are welcome to start prepayments in order to spread out payments. If the cheerleader does not qualify to the Summit or Worlds, the funds are completely reimbursable with a bonus. The bonus is a thank you for reducing the office load and for allowing us to temporarily use the funds to help those that need payment arrangements. To request the reimbursement, complete a Withdrawal Request Form anytime after the April 9.
    • UMDGC Credit - receive a UMDGC credit equal to 115% of the amount that was prepaid.
    • Refund - receive a refund for 105% of the amount that was prepaid.
