hip Hop

Hip hop is a range of street dance styles primarily performed to hip hop and pop music. It is influenced by a wide range of styles including house and break dancing. Some floor work may be introduced. All music used in classes is clean and age appropriate. Scroll to the bottom for our Drop In Hip Hop Classes for Ages 14+

Hip Hop 1 Ages 5-7

Basic hip hop motions and movements, isolations, jumps and floorwork.  Incorporates learning to follow rhythm with music. 

Hip Hop 2

Increased emphasis on techniques of Intro Hip Hop with more intricate movement and faster moving combinations.  Class will focus on more advanced floorwork, isolations, musicality and freestyling skills.

Hip Hop 3

Increased emphasis on techniques of Hip Hop 2 with more intricate movement and faster moving combinations.  Class will focus on more advanced floorwork, isolations, musicality and freestyling skills. Requirements: Must have passed previous level. Attire & Footwear: Solid color leggings or spandex shorts, athletic or sweatpants; leotard, tank top or T-shirt.  Pants are recommended to make movement and choreography on the floor easier.  Black or white clean and dry sneakers.

Hip Hop 4

Increased emphasis on techniques of Hip Hop 3 with more intricate movement and faster moving combinations. Classes may include instruction on specific hip hop techniques, such as Grooves, House, and Breakin’ Requirements: Must have passed previous level. Attire & Footwear: Solid color leggings or spandex shorts, athletic or sweatpants; leotard, tank top or T-shirt.  Pants are recommended to make movement and choreography on the floor easier.  Black or white clean and dry sneakers. Max Ratio:  12.  Credits:  Base $15;  Max 6 (September-June).

Drop In Hip Hop Classes

Join former UMDGC dancer and instructor, Carlee Ciaffone, for a drop-in Hip Hop class! Open to all levels. Class will include a warmup and choreography.

About Carlee:
Carlee grew up dancing at UMDGC and has been dancing ever since! She is passionate about creating safe, fun spaces for both kids and adults to move freely and creatively at any age! Carlee’s favorite style to teach is hip hop.
